Ted Sargent

Panelist: Ontario Entrepreneurs Making a Difference in Solar Technology

 

Ted Sargent is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Nanotechnology at the University of Toronto. He also serves as Associate Chair - Research in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is author of over two hundred refereed journal papers.

His research has been published in Nature, Science, Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Photonics, and IEEE Proceedings. His papers have been cited over 3000 times. He is a KAUST Investigator focused on creating broad-spectrum solar cells based on colloidal quantum dots. His book "The Dance of Molecules: How Nanotechnology is Changing our Lives" was published by Penguin in 2006 and has since been translated into Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish, and Korean. He earned his BSc in Engineering Physics from Queen's University in 1995 and his PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Toronto in 1998.

In 2006 he founded the venture-backed start-up company InVisage Technologies. The company is commercializing the use of colloidal quantum dots in image sensors for the mobile handset (cellphone camera) market. He serves as CTO. InVisage is backed by Charles River Ventures, RockPort Capital, InterWest, and OnPoint.
